Barcelona

Private market walking tour and cooking class in the Gràcia neighborhood

Today’s tour and cooking class provide an insider’s view into Barcelona and one of its iconic neighborhoods, as well as true insights into the ingredients and flavors of Spanish cuisine. You meet your culinary hosts, Tamara and David, in the cosmopolitan Gràcia neighborhood at the northern end of the Passeig de Gràcia street. You join them on their morning walk through the open-air food market where enticing produce and glistening seafood are laid out. This prosperous Catalan neighborhood is known for lovely 19th-century and modernist buildings and homes. Back in the kitchen, you don an apron and help them prepare a series of classic Spanish dishes. From their kitchen, they run a busy catering business where locals stop by to pick up their “to go” home-cooked meals, allowing you to meet and chat with their customers and enjoy a true neighborhood feel. Of course you also savor the fruits of your labor as you settle down at the small table in the kitchen to eat a leisurely lunch. With these accomplished chefs and charming hosts, you enjoy a delicious meal and unique connection to the place.

This afternoon you are free to continue exploring Barcelona at your leisure. In fact, the collection of Gaudí’s architectural works in the city, including the unfinished Sagrada Familia cathedral and the undulating Casa Milà apartment building, compose in their entirety, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
