Guiding for CW

CW GUIDES

CW guides work on a freelance basis and are paid a daily guiding wage. All tour-related expenses are covered by CW. Some guides may guide only 2-3 trips a year while others may guide 6-8. Rarely are guides able to work year-round with CW due to limited departures in each region. We include 2 guides with all groups of 8 or more guests on most tours.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A POTENTIAL GUIDE:

Intimate knowledge about and expertise in the region you wish to guide whether it be natural history, art, architecture, food & wine, cultural and political history, geology, music, and folklore. In the United States and Canada knowledge of the local flora and fauna is required and in many of the national parks, guides must be licensed.

Ideally you should live in the region in which you wish to guide. This is especially true for our international tours in which we seek local residents.

Other skills we look for include the following:

  • Superb people and customer service skills: outgoing, confident, and fun personality; being at ease when speaking to groups and being a spirited conversationalist.
  • Experience in handling multiple logistics.
  • Ability to communicate well with local vendors including hotels, restaurants, and transportation companies.
  • Fluency in the local language as well as English.
  • Passion for walking and the outdoors; physical fitness.
  • Ability to work and connect with a co-guide; including sharing a room on tour with a guide of the same gender.
  • In the United States and Canada, the ability to safely drive a 12-passenger van; a clean driving record.
  • Ability to handle and manage a tour budget.
  • First aid skills and CPR certification.
  • Well-rounded life experience.
  • Prior guiding is strongly recommended but not required.

WHEN AND HOW TO APPLY

While we recruit and schedule guides on a year round basis, most of the scheduling is confirmed during the late fall/early winter for the following year. If you meet the criteria above, please submit the following details:

  1. A cover letter outlining your specific guiding interests and people skills.
  2. A resume or C.V. outlining your guiding experience and professional experience.

The above can be sent via e-mail (info@cwadventure.com), fax (802-244-5661) or standard mail (CW P.O. Box 180 Waterbury, Vermont 05676 USA). Due to the high volume of guide inquiries, we ask that you please not call to check the status of your application. We will confirm receipt and then be in touch if opportunities arise which match your experience.

Thank you for your interest in guiding for CW!
